News of the Day, 1

    31 July 2006
    1. Health authorities report that tobacco will kill 1 billion people in this century, but Alcoholics Anonymous still says that smoking is okay — only Demon Rum is the evil drug.

    2. Yesha Rabbinical Council: During time of war, enemy has no innocents:

The Yesha Rabbinical Council announced in response to an IDF attack in Kfar Qanna that "according to Jewish law, during a time of battle and war, there is no such term as 'innocents' of the enemy."

All of the discussions on Christian morality are weakening the spirit of the army and the nation and are costing us in the blood of our soldiers and civilians," the statement said. (Efrat Weiss),7340,L-3283720,00.html

So, there we have the official Jewish rationalization for the murder of the children of Qana (who are Lenanese civilians, not Hezbollah fighters).
And Christian morality is merely "a weakening influence" on the Israeli army? (Heaven forbid we should contaminate their pure hateful little souls with some Christian compassion.)

So why is the USA supporting Israel? What exactly have we gained from 60 years of supporting Israel, besides getting the hatred of a large part of the world?

    3. See this editorial about the murder of hundreds of innocent Lebanese civilians by Israel, and what you can do to help: The Madison (Wisconsin) Capitol Times editorial.

    4. In Las Vegas, it is now illegal to feed the poor and homeless in city parks — not even one biscuit or sandwich. That city is all heart. But then again, we already knew that, didn't we?

    5. A vaccine against nicotine? The ABC News story.
Also, — More on the vaccine from the manufacturer

    6. Wacky news of the day:
A California Radio Station Goes From Christian Format To 'All Sex Radio, All The Time' — Which is actually just what some of those TV evangelists really like.
